Track 8 · Planned · Tentative Q3 2027

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) & Production Engineering

Firmware for the factory line: test points, factory test modes, fast flashing, second-source silicon and locking debug ports safely.

Track 8 isn’t on sale yet. It opens for pre-order when writing starts, with release planned for Q3 2027.

I need Track 8 sooner

Tracks are written in order. Requests with a real deadline help decide which track gets moved up.

Why each module matters

  • 8.1Test Points & Bed-of-Nails Fixture DesignDesign test points and fixtures that make contact reliably, so the line stops rejecting good boards.
  • 8.2Factory Test Firmware (ICT / FCT Modes)Ship one production binary with a secure factory test mode, instead of a separate test hex and a second flashing cycle.
  • 8.3Flash Cycle-Time Optimization & Gang ProgrammingCut programming time per board, so the factory line can produce more without adding labour.
  • 8.4Shortage-Ready Architecture & Drop-in Chip ReplacementsSupport a second-source microcontroller from one codebase, so a part shortage doesn't stop production.
  • 8.5Factory Silicon Lock-down & Debug SecurityLock down debug ports only after verifying the flash, protecting your IP without bricking boards on the line.

The cost of a single failure

The failure it addresses
45-second factory flash cycles, brittle test fixtures with false rejects, and a line halted by a single-sourced chip shortage.
Typical cost if it happens
$20,000–$35,000 in operator labour on a 100k-unit run, and $50,000–$250,000+ if a line stops during a shortage.
What the track teaches
Teaches fast flash programming over SWD, bed-of-nails design rules and shortage-ready multi-target code.

Cost benchmarks and engineering labour estimates are drawn from typical industry averages (fully loaded engineering rates of $80–$100 an hour, typical prototype fabrication costs, and low-to-mid volume manufacturing runs). They are provided for risk assessment, educational planning and internal budgeting only. No specific financial return, operational saving or outcome is guaranteed. All tracks
